Postby funky200L » Thu Jul 15, 2010 11:05 am

Im going to be filling the cooling system back up in my 1976 Laurel C130 ... is there a bleed valve or is it just a case of filling up slowly ? ....

I don't recall ever seeing a bleed valve or having had any problems with air locks on Datsun engines when filling up the coolant. Remember to set the heater controls to 'hot'

Thermostat should have a bleed built in, if this is blocked or a non original stat is fitted it can cause airlocks (and a cooked engine) . Check the amount of coolant going in. It should be well over a gallon. if it is not, remove a pipe such as heater (higher up the better) until water comes out of it.

I live up on a hill, and I have never had troubles in rad bleeding process as I let the engine run "nose up" and cap open until warm. Air tends to go up in water

8 liters is about right.

make certian that bypass circuit hoses are not blocked with the L ser engines.
I normally restrict this hose but I need the engine to warm up quickly and australian cars normally have big cooling systems and I use the heater all year around.

recently seen environmental friendy drain tray that have a radiator cap conection for refill.just over $100 so its not for home use.

to refil the radiator-sit on the radiator cap conection and fill tray with about the right amount.
a lever allows you to fill with the amount you want-otherwise you leave the tap open and allow air to be purged.the steep hill is always the best way.

I had parts from a pressure tester conected to a long hose-or conect hose to the overflow pipe and take out the pressure seal from the cap.
the stat on the bottom hose types can be a drama as it should be bled with out the engine running.

dont ever drill extra holes in the stat that arnt suposed to be there.i like the old steel jiggler bleeders not these modern plastic 6 month deals..
