Datsun 100A Help!

Hi all,
im in need of a little bit of help. i am trying to get a key for the datsun i have just got and i was hoping to get the serial from the ignition barrel?

is there an easier way of doing this if so please can you let me know.

I don't think there is one on there..
Two places to look. GLove compartment, sometimes a sticker in there with number on, starts with VH

Warranty booklet, if you still have this, the key number is sometimes written in there.

ok thank you, i havn't got a warranty book but i will try and see if there is a sticker in the glove box tomorrow.

There are some services/locksmiths that will cut a key to the lock. The local one to me has, unfortunately, closed up shop but he did advertise in the classic car mags/papers.
This would mean that you would have to remove the the ignition barrel to get it done-not a big job but ignition barrels are usually held in place by shear-bolts to stop them being removed quickly. Easy to do though, if a little time consuming.

Just cut a slot in the head of the shear bolt with a hack saw blade and its easy to remove with a flat screw driver. The shear bolts are never all that tight.
